Plompetorengracht brought back to its original glory
In 2009, the municipality of Utrecht approached DE NOOD. A listed building on Plompetorengracht in Utrecht had two stone plinths in front of it on which were two zinc pedestals. In the past, these pedestals had poles and light fittings on them - an attractive addition to the street. They wanted to bring it back to its original state.
DE NOOD staff carried out an inspection on site to determine the condition of the pedestals. They were found to be in a very dilapidated state. The pedestals were dismantled and transported to the DE NOOD workshop in Middelburg, where we checked if it was possible to reproduce the pedestal ornaments, which were in poor condition. We found a good solution thanks to the years of experience among the staff at DE NOOD. Moulds were made for the various ornaments, after which they were cast in a special type of lead and put back on their pedestals.
The two poles and the associated fittings were reconstructed using a photo from 1905 and two from the 70s. The mast itself is made of stainless steel and the fittings are made of copper. Finally, all the elements (pedestals, poles and fittings) were painted in the proper colour and installed on site by DE NOOD staff.
The final result is splendid. You can genuinely say that this part of the Plompetorengracht has been brought back to its original state.
